Result of my very big project

So I have this toybox which is now full of old junk, and I decided to take paint markers and draw a design on this. Now I wasn’t gonna settle for anything simple, no, I decided to draw on it in the style of Mulheres Barbadas(my inspiration and new favorite artists). I didn’t do quite like them, but it was similar. So it took me a long time, I used pencil first then I went over that with the markers because I’m not good enough to go straight with paint. My extra fine point paint sharpie had some issues and I got a lot of pools of black paint on my work which was unbelievably frustrating. The top picture is the final result, the second is a close up, and last is showing my setup. The tripod was there because I put a camera on it, and set it to take 1 picture every 30 seconds while I was painting(with markers). I didn’t take pictures during the pencil parts, just the paint marker parts. I made those images into a time-lapse video which you can watch on youtube here:

Sketched using Adobe Ideas app for my ipod

I decided to try out Adobe’s app for iphone/ipod/ipad called Adobe Ideas. The app is named well because unlike other full drawing apps, this one is quite limited. There is a pencil tool and eraser tool. You can change the color, size, and opacity. You can put in a photo below the drawing and sketch off that which is nice. That’s about it for the drawing. But they also have a cool thing where you can choose a photo/image and the program will make a color theme by picking five main colors from the image, and you can then access that color theme while drawing.

Made from an alloy invincible to everything except water!

A chalk drawing I made with some old crayola sidewalk chalk. It is really really terrible chalk though. Because there is very little pigment actually. So all the colors are very light, and there are no dark colors like at all. No black, or even dark blue. The blue you see is the darkest color I had. Had fun with shading this, made nice round spheres out of his knees and elbows. I plan to make another chalk one sometime soon though, and it will hopefully be better.

My first piece to enter the real world!

So I love to doodle, ask my teachers. A lot of the time, I doodle out ideas that eventually become bigger things. Now that school’s out for summer(*alice cooper plays in my head*), I thought I’d make this small pocket-sized book for doodling in. After figuring out the dimensions I wanted, I made my design in illustrator using basically only rectangles, circles, some pen tool, and a whole bunch of pathfinder and transforming. I actually started with the text spacing and sizing. I then printed it on this brownish tan paper I found. Lastly I cut up some paper, folded it all in half, and stapled it. I think because the brown paper was a different texture, the ink doesn’t stay on it, so when it’s rubbed it becomes kinda faded. It looks cool, but very soon the design will be invisible . This small sketchbook idea and look was not my own idea really. I while back I had found a site selling a small sketchbook like this with a very cool vector design on it. I remember thinking “I could probably make my own” and have been wanting to do it for a while. I am very sorry, but I can’t find that webpage anymore, I’ve looked hard to find that online store where the guy was selling it. I thought I had bookmarked it. If anyone finds the link please send it to me!

I have a lot to say about this one.

Ok first off, I wanna make it clear that I do not gamble or anything like that(I’ve lost too many times), the idea came because I was looking for inspiration in my room and found a deck of cards. Next thing is that this pretty much entire design concept is from this tutorial which is great. Now let me talk about this: so this is actually the first time I sketched something, scanned it, then used it as a template. My sketch was only like the size of a credit card on a corner of my french homework, but that was fine in the end… I then in illustrator took a brush and made the lines. Here is a question  to anyone who can help, I made all my lines, and I wanted to erase and smooth out bumps and stuff like you can do in flash(as seen in the tut) but then, all the brush strokes were lines, and my eraser was useless. I tried “outline stroke” but it made all my lines skinny and ugly. So I just kept my lines all scraggly. Next thing is the phrase, “wanna bet on that?” I know it is lame, and kinda creepy, but I needed a short catchy phrase that has to do with gambling. Of course now that I’m done I can think of like 20 better phrases like, “I’m feeling luck”(google) “I’ll take the chance” or something about putting money on something.

Just like back in 3rd grade

So for art, we were randomly given chalk and told to go outside, and it was not surprisingly a lot of fun. I got really into the whole chalk art, and you could tell from my multi-colored jeans and hands and shoes etc. Oh yeah, these were taken on my phone, so the quality isn’t great.

That’s how robots roll…

Another iPod finger painting with Brushes. I guess the idea in this one is that the robot is running away from something. I lit it from behind him imagining he was like getting away from some explosion or something. I dunno, didn’t really think of much of a back story.  With this one, I started by sketching the robot with just a thin black brush. Then after cleaning up the sketch a lot and adding a little detail, I used a soft big brush to color it. With the uke I did before, I just painted it straight. This is more of like a comic/cartoon style.

I’ve been on break this week, and as a result I’m addicted to this finger painting. I’m not gonna put up all of them because most of them are pretty lame. Drawing on the small iPod screen, I can see how the new iPad would be really cool to use. However I think part of the reason the whole iPod painting is really addictive, is because you can do it anywhere. If I carry an iPad around, well I can’t put it in my pocket, so I might as well have a sketchbook or laptop.

It’s more difficult than you’d think

I made this on my iPod with the Brushes app. Compared to most other drawing apps for iPod/iPhone this one is really good. It takes a while to get used to the finger painting because sometimes your own fat finger gets in the way of seeing what you’re doing. It’s also pretty impossible to draw straight lines as you can see with my uke strings. I wanted to have the entire uke shown but I ran out of space because of the angle.

As you can see, I get a lot done in class.

Well I haven’t really done anything for a while because I’ve been really busy with school and whatnot, so I decided I’d post something I’ve been doodling in history. Now its just a pencil sketch, but the cool thing is the paper I used. This is isometric perspective, so things further away are equal size to things closer. For more info on that check wikipedia. What I did (the clever part), I printed out isometric graph paper  from this neat site called Print Free Graph Paper. It actually has the grid faintly on it so I can just trace over that for quick, cheater’s perspective. Maybe someday I’ll bring this into illustrator or something and make it nice and finished.

What I should be doing right now…

Sunday is supposed to be the weekend right? I mean you should get the day off, just be able to do what you want, hobbies etc. That’s what I think, but it just never ends up that way. With all my homework, sunday becomes just as bad as any other weekday really. I spend half of the day dreading my homework and the rest of the day painfully doing it. Why can’t we get this day off? Why can’t it be like good old saturday? I guess the logic is that 5 days of school so 5 days of homework. There’s no way I can force myself to do any work on friday or saturday when I know I don’t absolutely have to for tomorrow. So right now, I’m sitting here at my desk, with my work all out in front of me. So far I’ve done none of it… but I made this in illustrator based mostly on this cool tut.
